Introduction:
CAD/CAM is a Computer Aided Design/Computer Aided Manufacturing course,
though both are different but these are interlinked and are used in the process
of developing a product i.e. form designing to manufacturing product depends on
these software’s. Conversion of a design in to digital format whether it may be
2D r 3D is done by CAD, and CAM is used to facilitate and automate
manufacturing process, modern CAM systems also include real-time control and
robotics.
Basics of CAD/CAM:
Until 1980’s there is no particular software
to draft models into 3D format, when solid modeling technology was made available
for personal computers. This software basically converts designs into 2D or 3D
shapes then they will be translated into a machine language such as G-code
.This numeric code is sent to the machine tool. Complete model can be
constructed piece by piece as 3D model and assembled within software interface.
Shapes in CAD can be drawn using geometry such as points, lines and circles.
Modern CAD allows creation of parts in 2, 3, 4 and 5axis.CAD is an important
part of manufacturing as the designed parts are transferred to CAM for
manufacturing.
Where is it used?
CAD/CAM is mostly used in engineering based industries like:
Aerospace: This
industry manufactures everything from satellites to missiles which are very
expensive and a single error can spoil the whole project. So, therefore these
products are designed using this software in 3d formats before they are
developed.
Architecture:
When building something as big and as expensive as apartments or skyscrapers
you need to be careful and devise a proper plan before actually start building.
So, this software is used not only to design buildings but also take perfect
measurements.

Automotive: Used
in designing of prototypes of vehicles bodies, tires, engines and circuit
boards.
Fashion: As
people are becoming fashion freaks, even fashion industry is opting for virtual
software’s to create, alter designs and also can be used to check using virtual
models how the fabric looks and moves in real.
Cartography: Gone
are the days when cartographers used to make maps using hands for climate, road
and topography. They now use cad to make maps.
Marine: Used to
design ships or naval architecture which basically runs on or under water, they
are very expensive and care should be taken while designing and manufacturing
these kinds of products. So, these architects are opting for this kind of software’s
which provide them with 3d views.
Importance of
training:
CAD/CAM training is
very important because, if you want to make a career in the field of design or
manufacturing, you should have at least basics of how to design and automate
things for manufacturing. The use of this software in any industry enhances
speed and reduces time taken for developing products. Even though you have
learnt this as a part of curriculum in colleges, you may not have good grip on
the subject to work in real time. Getting into training institutes provide you
with real time assessment and industry oriented mini project. There are many institutes
which provide CAD CAM training in Hyderabad,
out of them Ikya Global Edu is one of the
best with industry oriented mini project and placement assistance. Getting
trained also helps you to get placed in good organizations with attractive
packages. As this profession is in high demand organizations are also
interested to hire people who are already trained rather than recruiting them
and then training them.
