Set-Up your Own Medical Coding Business!

Hey trainees, did you know you could set up your own medical coding business right from the comfort of your own home? Well, if you never thought of jumping into the entrepreneur bandwagon, think again…coz the medical information industry offers great scope and big money! But before getting all too excited about it, you should ask yourself, are you willing to take your life to the next level, no matter how demanding it may get? If your answer is yes, then read on…

As an entrepreneur, you need to be independent and stay calm in stressful situations. If you have the right temperament to be a businessman, we’ll tell you how to set up your own coding business at home.

Step #1: Get Trained and Certified

Most of you may already be in step 1. Before setting up your business, finish you coding training and get certified by the American Academy of Professional Coders or the American Health Information Management Association. Most importantly, become an expert in HIPAA. Being a certified professionalwill make it easier to score clients.

Step #2: Get Experienced

Once you are trained and certified, you shouldn’t start a business right away. To know the subtle nuances of the medical coding profession and business, it’s best to work as a professional medical coder in any company of your choice. The experience will not only help you bring clients for your business but will also help you meet valuable contacts who could help with your business. This is a very important step if you are looking to make a great at-home business. Work hard and impress your bosses and co-workers. Attend meetings and conferences on medical coding and increase your network of contacts. You can also leave comments and tips on coding forums on the internet by offering advice to other coders. Don’t forget to mention your name to increase your web presence. You can also add your website address when you set up your own website later on.

Step #3: Map Your Business Plan

Now comes the critical stage: making a business plan. Before you setup your business, you need to be clear as to what amount of finance would be required to start-up and what marketing tools you will use. There are numerous valuable resources online on writing a business plan. Pick one and get started.

Step #4: Decide Business Type and Register

Once you have the business plan ready, decide which business entity you wish to have. There are different types of business entities that apply to your business – sole proprietorship, LLC, partnership, corporation, etc. Read online resources to gain more clarity on these. You can then register your company at http://www.mca.gov.in/MCA21/RegisterNewComp.html. If you find this too confusing, consult a lawyer or a corporate consulting firm.

Step #5: Set up YOUR Office!

Make space in your home to set up your office. Get the necessary infrastructure and furniture, such as desk, chair (very comfortable one!), computer and internet access. Don’t forget coding manuals! You will also need medical coding software that you are most comfortable with. Also, set up your website to market your business, skills and expertise. There are many low cost options that help you get a domain and easy tools that help you create or design a website. Alternatively, you could ask a web developer to set it up for you.

Step #6: Start Marketing
Lastly, once you have set up everything, you will have to start marketing your business. Use your contacts and network to let them know about your business, get a brochure designed to send to medical coding companies, hospitals, doctors, clinics, etc. Place follow-up calls to ask if they wish to take your services. Also look online for companies that are looking for work-from-home medical coders.

Now that you have clients, your business is good to go! All the best!

Top Five Highest Paid Engineering Jobs in India

Oh well…a multitude of engineering courses to choose from! But which one pays the highest? While some choose an engineering career out of passion, most others merely opt for it because of its popularity. Whatever be the reason, it’s always a good idea to know which route pays best, isn’t it? We get you a roundup of the top five highest paying engineering careers in India just in case it makes your choice easier. But while choosing an engineering career, make sure you are in it for satisfaction and not for the money!

1 Highest Paying Engineering Career – ComputerScience
Of course, it’s the techies who always get the top job and big pay packets. With IT giants setting up shop on Indian shores, the demand for CSE engineers is ever increasing and so is their remuneration. Because of limited growth in the electronics, R&D and manufacturing sectors in India, there is a comparatively lower opportunity for chemical, electronics, aeronautical, instrumentation and other branches. Software solutions however are required in almost every sector and so, computer science engineers enjoy lucrative salaries.
According to PayScale.com, the average salary of a Computer Software Engineer is up to Rs.6 lakh a year. Freshers can expect anywhere between 2.5 to 8 lakhs per year.

2 Highest Paying Engineering Career – Mechanical Engineering
Because of the large number of heavy manufacturing industries in India, mechanical engineers are very much in demand. Automobile, steel, mining, and IT industries and sectors such as metro rail, defence forces, shipping, railways, etc. have a major requirement for mechanical engineers.
Mechanical engineers can expect salaries up to Rs. 3.5 lakh per year. Added skills such as CAD/CAM, Ansys, SolidWorks and C++ will get you a higher pay.

3 Highest Paying Engineering Career – Civil Engineering
With burgeoning infrastructural developments, construction activities in India are on a high. And so is the demand for civil engineers. A civil engineer earns anywhere between Rs. 3.5 to 5 lakhper year. Those with added skills such as Project Management, Microsoft Project and CAD/CAM are always on the higher end of the pay scale!

4 Highest Paying Engineering Career – Electrical Engineering
Electrical engineering is perhaps the oldest branch of engineering. Electrical engineers are hired by almost all sectors, be it the power sector, manufacturing sector, IT sector, et al. This is one engineering branch that will never go out of fashion. Electrical engineers earn around 2 to 4 lakh per year. Those with Visual Basic (VB) or CAD/CAM skills enjoy higher pays.

5 Highest Paying Engineering Career – Electronics & Communication Engineering
EC engineers find lucrative employment opportunities with communication biggies like Vodafone, Airtel and Idea. However, these companies don’t have a large scale requirement for EC engineers as most operations are handled by technicians. Other areas where EC engineers are employed include mobile, television and PC companies. However, because devices are not manufactured in India but are rather assembled, EC engineers may not have many recruiters. The average salary of an EC engineer ranges between 1.5 to 3 lakh per year.
Many engineering students also look for other high-paying careers apart from engineering. We’ll get you some in our next blog. Don’t miss!

How to Find Hidden Jobs and Get Employed ASAP

Hidden jobs? Don’t worry! Nothing illegal here! A hidden job is simply a job that is not advertised, posted on social media or on job search portals. You’d be surprised to know that a majority of jobs are not advertised anywhere. Imagine the chances of getting employed if you simply know where to look for a hidden job, especially because there are often a lesser number of candidates to compete with!

That does not mean that a hidden job is not worth applying for. Most hiring managers simply ask their employees to refer someone for a particular vacancy, post these jobs on personal networks so their close ones can refer someone, or simply inform recruitment agencies about the vacancy.

Because these jobs are not really advertised, they are called hidden jobs but are equally worthwhile as is any other advertised job. In fact, they are sometimes even more valuable because recruiters favour referred candidates for important jobs.
So bring your binoculars out coz’ we are gonna tell you where to go job hunting!

1. Ask the Right People, Look in the Right Places
Ask the right people if they are aware of any job vacancies. These could be your former employer, former colleague, family, friends, college/university, recruitment agencies and placement offices. You can look for hidden jobs at alumni associations and at the local library which is a repository of business journals and newspapers. You can also look for leads from employees at local companies nearby. Career forums on social media and youth specific websites also have links and discussions on internal vacancies.

2. Increase your Reach through Networking
The bigger your network is, the more vacancies will be brought to your notice. Increase your network by interacting with other job seekers at job fairs, by starting or joining a job search support group, networking with attenders of industry seminars, volunteering at events, and trade unions. You can also get information from Chambers of Commerce to know about start-ups, which are more likely to have numerous challenging job vacancies.

3. Tap the Power of Search Engines
Now, search engines won’t really list out job postings. But, they are still agreat tool to find hidden jobs. Search for keywords such as “hiring”, “recruitment” etc. in Google News Search to find news about local companies. Often, companies announce in press releases that they are hiring or will be having many vacancies soon. Modify the search options by choosing specific localities and industries to suit your requirements. You can also create Google Alerts for your specific searches so you are informed whenever new search results are available.

With these tips, tap into the hidden job market and find employment ASAP!

Surprise Anybody! Turn Your Smartphone into a 3D Hologram Projector, at Home!

Here’s a cool techno-trick that you can use to impress just about anyone. Watch a 3D butterfly hovering on top of your smartphone, or a 3D couple dancing, a colourfully rendered heart or a gracefully swimming Jellyfish, all on the top of your phone right where you are!

While engineers out there are busy developing and perfecting their 3D holographic technology, you can create your own in-house 3D hologram projector which uses 2D videos to create a 3D effect. However, this is technically not a true hologram because a true hologram uses split laser beams to recreate a 3D object. Nevertheless, the hologram that you will create with the following method (brought to you by courtesy of the YouTube user ‘Mrwhosetheboss’) will be no less than a 3D hologram.
All you need to pull this trick is:

  •     Your smartphone
  •     Tape or super glue
  •     A transparent CD or DVD case
  •     A pen
  •     Scissors
  •     A sharp knife or a glass cutter
1. First, create a template on paper with the following shape with the given dimensions (1cm, 3.5cm, 6cm).

2. Cut out the same shape on the CD case, making a total of four shapes.

3. Stick them together.

4. Download or play any holographic video from YouTube on your smartphone. Place the object you just made on top of the screen, shut out the lights, and viola, enjoy the scene!

Links for a few holographic videos:
You can find lots more on your own!

For a DIY video demonstration, you can visit https://www.youtube.com/watch?t=60&v=7YWTtCsvgvg.
Enjoy! Do let us know of your experiences with the projector and any cool, innovative ideas you may have to add on to this trick. And keep visiting our blog!

How to Become a Certified Clinical Research Associate

A CRA or Clinical Research Associate monitors research studies and trials in a CRO (Contract Research Organization), a pharmaceutical company or a biotech company. Their responsibility is to ensure adherence to clinical research guidelines, FDA approved methodology and SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures). Since the role of a CRA is that of utmost responsibility, rigorous clinical research training and certification from recognized organizations is an essential requirement.

Clinical Research Training and Certification
Organizations involved in clinical trials look for candidates who are certified and have undergone validated and standardized training. The work of a CRA is critical to the success of a clinical research project and therefore, a great deal of importance is given to finding certified and well-trained candidates. There are a few good clinical research courses in Hyderabad that students can opt for. CRAs with prior experience but without certification can opt for the valuable CRA Training and Certification Program which would certify them as a CRS Certified Clinical Research Associate. This certificate will be value addition to their work experience and recognition in the industry. Certification is however not necessary to start working as a clinical research associate. Students with a life science background can undergo clinical research training at any worthwhile institute and find employment. A certification will only add to their credibility and help them enhance their career prospects.

Eligibility for CRA Certification
To be employed in the clinical research field, one needs to be from a life science background with training in clinical research. However, if students wish to get certified from an official authority, they will need to have a good training, educational background and work experience. Those without a sciences background but with Master of Health Care Administration or other similar health-care related qualifications can also apply for the certification program and will also be eligible for future employment.

Certification Details
The program is conducted through a 40-hour online structured training course where registered members are offered access to the CRS portal for learning and certification. Core clinical research training is conducted covering areas such as drug development, regulations, roles and responsibilities, documentation, ethics, safety reporting, etc. The certification examination for CRA is of 2 hour duration.Members are also required to use resources from websites such as the FDA, local and international policies, best practices, guidelines, etc. available at the learning and certification portal of CRO. The certification is to be maintained every two years from the issue of original certification. Certified individuals are required to complete 24 documented hours of activity for the maintenance of the certification, which is to be achieved by accumulating credits through CRE (Continuing Research and Education) and CPE (Continuing Professional Engagement).

Other Certifications
Certification can also be sought from organizations such as Association of Clinical Research Professionals (ACRP) and Society of Clinical Research Associates (SoCRA). However, even these certifications require prior clinical research experience. The experience could be as a clinical research coordinator or any other role in a clinic setting or in the pharmaceutical industry. Any role in clinical research can be counted as experience as long as a manager or HR personnel will attest to your experience.

Medical Transcription Learning Tips

More and more graduates and non-graduates are opting for medical transcription training so they can work from home, work on a part-time basis or for a full-time medical transcription job. Whatever be the reason, medical transcription is becoming a great career option for quick employment. Graduates who are proficient in the field are able to earn high incomes and get promoted to higher ranks easily. While the field does offer great scope, learning medical transcription requires dedication and the willingness to learn. Students in medical transcription training need to memorize scores of medical and anatomical terminologies and also have to improve their listening and typing skills. Here are a few tips for students of medical transcription to help them make the most of their training and master the field easily.

1. Practice the Skill
While most medical transcription courses in Hyderabad train you using professional software and transcriber units, a mere one-hour practice a day is not enough. You can turn your own home computer into a transcriber unit by downloading Express Scribe and Audacity softwares. Download these from their respective websites. You can also download podcasts and webcasts online that help in practicing transcription. A quick Google search for medical transcription podcasts/webcasts will help you find some good ones. Download these audio files and listen to the dictation. Start with transcribing a 15 minute file and then a 30 minute file. The typical industry standard for medical transcription is four hour typing for one hour long audio. Continue practicing to transcribe these dictations until you reach the industry standard.

2. Work on Knowledge
To be able to transcribe accurately, you need to have enough knowledge of medical processes, procedures, surgeries, drugs, diseases, symptoms, etc. This is because the physicians making a dictation will frequently use medical terms and unless you are aware of these, you may find it difficult to transcribe accurately. The course syllabi in institutes offering medical transcription courses in Hyderabad cover most of the essential medical terms. However, it is up to the students to memorize these terms. Memorizing can be made easy with the use of flashcards and quizzes available online. The trick is to practice and learn as much as you can and to actually grasp knowledge of the subject. Students can also view YouTube videos that explain the basics of medical transcription along with tips and tricks on improving knowledge and transcribing fast and accurately.

3. Be a Spelling Bee
To be a good transcriptionist, one needs to have a command over spellings as minor errors in the spellings of some medically important terms can change the entire meaning. In medical transcription training, students are taught to transcribe dictations but it is the responsibility of students to learn the spellings of medical terms accurately. To improve spelling, you can list out the terms that you most commonly spell incorrectly. Keep revising these spellings every now and then. To increase typing speed, students can make use of online typing software, tests and games.

Ikya Global is one of the few best medical transcription training institutes in Hyderabad that offer training at affordable prices along with placement assistance and certification.

Medical Billing Learning Tips

The task of medical billers is to handle invoices, payments, claims and appeals. Medical billers have a tremendous responsibility resting on their shoulders and they need to be consistently careful with their jobs. Many students feel overwhelmed during their medical billing training, wondering if they will be able to learn all the coding guidelines, medical terms, etc. Many students are also full time or part-time employees and so they may find it difficult to grasp the subject of medical billing too tasking.
Although many medical billing training institutes in Hyderabad and elsewhere offer options to allow students learn on their own pace, students may need some form of guidance and tips on how they can make the most of their training. Here are some tips that students of medical billing can use to improve their learning.
Memorization Skills and Flash Cards
To be able to learn all the medical and anatomical terms and codes, you need to improve your memory. While memorising terms, begin with only a few terms and focus on them for a few minutes. You can then proceed to a new set of terms and then return to the first set. Continue to repeat this process as you memorize more and more sets of terms. When beginning a new study session after an interval, always make it a point to return to the terms learnt earlier and revise them to keep the memory fresh. While medical billing courses in Hyderabad will provide the necessary training and theoretical support, you will need to memorize on your own.
A great way to memorise medical terms and codes is the use of flashcards. You can buy a set of flashcards for human anatomy and medical terminology or create your own cards.
Improve Spelling and Typing
In medical billing training, you will know the importance of correct spellings. You can improve your spellings by listing out terms that you most often tend to misspell. Practice learning these by writing the spellings multiple times, repeating the letters out aloud and revisiting these words every time you sit to study.
Medical billing courses in Hyderabad stress the importance of accurate and fast typing. Typing accurately is a basic talent demanded by the medical billing and coding industry. You can improve you typing skill, accuracy and speed using typing tests and games that are available online for free. It is also a great way of breaking away from the mundane studies and doing something fun!
Apart from these tips, you can also benefit by maintaining good health and seating posture. You may be required to be constantly seated in front of a computer and therefore, may suffer from symptoms of wrong posture. Make sure you sit with the right posture and exercise and eat well to stay healthy. Also, interacting with other students and with your own trainers will help you retain interest in the subject and clarify concepts.
